My Review

Let me start off by saying how much I love that cover. Seriously, it’s gorgeous. I feel like the cover of this book is going to offer me a ticket into an awesome and private club.

I had originally thought that this book might be like Pretty Little Liars – a series that I’ve read multiple times and have always loved. Only instead of a setting like a nice little suburb, it’s more of a futuristic setting with all kinds of future like gadgets and technology that just makes the book incredibly fun. I really liked the futuristic aspect of this novel – it really brings quite a bit into the book to make it very enjoyable.

Set in 2118 Manhattan, in a tower that stretches all the way into the sky, five characters want things that will change their lives, and have secrets that they will go to great lengths to protect.

One of the characters, Leda, has a secret drug addict because of a bad decision regarding a boy that she thought she had feelings for, but instead got her hooked on a substance that is ruining her life.

Eris seems to have it all, except a healthy family life – a secret is going to tear apart everything she’s ever known.

Rylin is used to a life of simplicity, but when she takes a job in the tower, she finds that even though everything is different, she is slowly falling in love with the lifestyle, and while giving up her previous life isn’t what she wants, she doesn’t want to give any of this up, either.

Watt was supposed to be spying on a girl in the building, but instead has discovered a bunch of secrets and lies, and isn’t quite sure what to do with them.

Finally, we have Avery, who was created to be a perfect girl in pretty much every way, except instead of being happy, she is broken inside.

The characters are really deep and have interesting backstories to them, so they were really fun to read about. Learning about their secrets and the scandals that surround some of them was interesting. I’ve heard people say that fans of Gossip Girl will really enjoy this book, but I’ve never read those books or watched the movies, but honestly, this is full of secrets and scandals, and is oh so much fun.

I loved how futuristic this book felt, and the prospect of genetically engineering people (such as Avery) to be pretty much perfect was interesting here. I think the author did a really good job on this one.

The book is a little on the long side, but was such an interesting read. I really can’t wait to read the next installment in the series!
