Synopsis:Welcome to a world where nightmarish creatures reign supreme.
Five hundred years ago, Jack made a deal with the devil. It’s difficult for him to remember much about his mortal days. So, he focuses on fulfilling his sentence as a Lantern—one of the watchmen who guard the portals to the Otherworld, a realm crawling with every nightmarish creature imaginable. Jack has spent centuries jumping from town to town, ensuring that nary a mortal—or not-so-mortal—soul slips past him. That is, until he meets beautiful Ember O’Dare.
Seventeen, stubborn, and a natural-born witch, Ember feels a strong pull to the Otherworld. Undeterred by Jack’s warnings, she crosses into the forbidden plane with the help of a mysterious and debonair vampire—and the chase through a dazzling, dangerous world is on. Jack must do everything in his power to get Ember back where she belongs before both the earthly and unearthly worlds descend into chaos.

Wow…this book!
I have to say that while I really expected to enjoy this book, I didn’t expect to be as blown away by it as I was. It was dark. It was kind of creepy. And it was absolutely fabulous.
First off, look at that cover! It’s absolutely beautiful and I love it so much. It’s probably one of the prettiest covers I’ve seen in a while.
Also, this book has such a great plot. It’s original, it’s brilliant, and it’s fun. I love fun books. They make me happy. This one was dark, sure, but it also had that air of excitement that made me want to keep reading and reading it until I had finished it.
The characters in this book are amazing, too. They are so well written and I loved their personalities and how they interacted with each other. The dialogue was completely right for them, and I kind of felt like I knew them personally.
That plot? Wow. I loved all the dark and strange creatures that are involved in the book – including vampires. And the whole Otherworld theme was something I haven’t really read many novels about, so I was really intrigued by how the author wrote it. It’s always so much fun to read about something different and then get lost in the book, realizing that when you finish reading you have to come back to the real world.
The world building in this book was fantastic. I absolutely loved the way she wrote the details of the scenes, the settings, and the way the characters interacted with everything. It was just amazing.
If you’re looking for a fantasy/paranormal, this is perfect! You won’t want to put it down!
Note: I received an ARC of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!
