Synopsis: Elizabeth Lavenza hasn’t had a proper meal in weeks. Her thin arms are covered with bruises from her “caregiver,” and she is on the verge of being thrown into the streets . . . until she is brought to the home of Victor Frankenstein, an unsmiling, solitary boy who has everything–except a friend.
Victor is her escape from misery. Elizabeth does everything she can to make herself indispensable–and it works. She is taken in by the Frankenstein family and rewarded with a warm bed, delicious food, and dresses of the finest silk. Soon she and Victor are inseparable.
But her new life comes at a price. As the years pass, Elizabeth’s survival depends on managing Victor’s dangerous temper and entertaining his every whim, no matter how depraved. Behind her blue eyes and sweet smile lies the calculating heart of a girl determined to stay alive no matter the cost . . . as the world she knows is consumed by darkness.
When I first heard about this book, I was so super excited to read it. I admit that I actually hadn’t read Frankenstein, but I do know enough about it, so I was curious as to what would be in store within the pages of this novel.
First off, I love the cover. Just by looking at it, you can tell that it’s going to be quite…creepy and strange, and I was so thrilled. The synopsis made it sound like the perfect read for the month of October, too – a great Halloween story!
The story is an interesting play on Frankenstein, while still retaining much originality and is incredibly fun and interesting. I love the plot – I found it to be relatively fast paced and exciting, and I honestly can’t say that there was a dull moment in this book – it was filled with action, twists and turns, and moments that are sure to keep you on the edge of your seat.
The characters – especially the main character, Elizabeth, are so well written! I honestly found myself loving all of them – they have so much personality and contribute so much to the story that it is unbelievable. It’s so hard to come by a book like this!
The plot – oh my gosh, it was so freaking awesome. I loved how dark the novel was. I love dark and atmospheric when it comes to books, so this one was right up my alley. The story was dark, the characters were dark, and the setting was dark – like I said, perfect for October!
I haven’t read anything else by this author, despite having some of her other books, but I have to say that she is an incredibly talented storyteller and I will go back and read everything she has written now. I loved her writing style, the way she describes the settings, and of course, the way she puts together characters to make them so incredible.
Definitely do not miss this book – it’s an incredible read that you are sure to fall in love with!
