1. Where did you come up with the idea for Never Apart?
Basically, I got an image of a girl running for her life through a swamp. Then I had to figure out a book to explain why.

2. Who is your favorite character in the book?
Probably Ander. He breaks my heart.

3. Which scene in the book was your favorite to write? Why?
The first few chapters were actually my favorite. They poured out of me over the course of a day, maybe a day and a half. The rest of the book? Not so much.

4. Are there any parts of the book that weren’t planned, but struck you at the last minute, such as a randomly written plot twist?
Absolutely. Tying the Falls to the ultimate ending? Figuring out who died? All happened while I was sitting in a Chicago hotel room.

5. Do you have any advice for aspiring authors?
Never give up. I had 246 rejections before my first ‘yes.’ If I can do this, you can do this.

6. What books are currently on your nightstand?
Couple hundred since I switched to reading on my iPad. At moment, I’m alternating between Janet Evanovich’s ONE FOR THE MONEY and Alan Bradley’s THE SWEETNESS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PIE.

Romily Bernard graduated from Georgia State University with a literature degree. Since then, she’s worked as a riding instructor, cell-phone salesperson, personal assistant, horse groomer and exercise rider, accounting assistant, and, during a very dark time, customer service representative. . . . She’s also, of course, now a YA novelist. So don’t let anyone tell you a BA degree will keep you unemployed. Romily currently lives in Atlanta, Georgia. Her debut novel, Find Me, won the Golden Heart Award for YA Romance from the Romance Writers of America in 2012.
