The Speed of Falling Objects

Author: Nancy Richardson Fischer

Publication Date: October 1st, 2019

Publisher: Inkyard Press

Synopsis: From the author of When Elephants Fly comes an exceptional new novel about falling down, risking everything and embracing what makes us unique. Don’t miss this compulsively readable novel about the most unlikely of heroes.

Danger “Danny” Danielle Warren is no stranger to falling. After losing an eye in a childhood accident, she had to relearn her perception of movement and space. Now Danny keeps her head down, studies hard, and works to fulfill everyone else’s needs. She’s certain that her mom’s bitterness and her TV star father’s absence are her fault. If only she were more-more athletic, charismatic, attractive-life would be perfect.

When her dad calls with an offer to join him to film the next episode of his popular survivalist show, Danny jumps at the chance to prove she’s not the disappointment he left behind. Being on set with the hottest teen movie idol of the moment, Gus Price, should be the cherry on top. But when their small plane crashes in the Amazon, and a terrible secret is revealed, Danny must face the truth about the parent she worships and falling for Gus, and find her own inner strength and worth to light the way home.

The Speed of Falling Objects first drew me in with the beautiful cover and the interesting premise of a reality survival t.v. show. I honestly can’t remember ever reading anything like that, so I wanted to read it and see how the author would spin the story.

The Speed of Falling Objects is a really awesome book that dealt with a lot of survival elements, as well as focusing on the main character and her backstory and what she is currently going through. This book has a ton of emotions in it, and the whole survival show aspect makes it much more in-depth and interesting than I imagined it would be.

I loved the characters in this book. They all had awesome personalities that were completely fleshed out and complex. It added so much to the plot and made it much more interesting. They were just…so well written! It was awesome.

I read When Elephants Fly last year when it came out and I really loved it. It was fun, probably one of the best contemporaries I read. So I was super excited when I heard the author was coming out with another book, and needless to say, I was not disappointed in the slightest. It had all the elements I loved, and then some.

I really enjoyed the family aspect of this book. I love books that have a strong family theme, and this one did.

This is the best read for an end-of-the-summer/early fall kind of feel.

If you love family themed books, and have a soft spot for reality t.v., this isn’t a book you want to miss!

Note: I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!

I live in the Pacific Northwest with my husband and our mostly wonderful (but sometimes vorpal) Vizsla. When I’m not conjuring a story, I love to kite-board, bike, ski or plan adventures with my two guys, who both make me laugh for different reasons and are the best partners in fun a gal could ever imagine.
