The Never Tilting World

Author: Rin Chupeco

Publication: October 15th, 2019

Publisher: Harper Teen

Synopsis: Frozen meets Mad Max in this epic teen fantasy duology bursting with star-crossed romance, immortal heroines, and elemental magic, perfect for fans of Furyborn.

Generations of twin goddesses have long ruled Aeon. But seventeen years ago, one sister’s betrayal defied an ancient prophecy and split their world in two. The planet ceased to spin, and a Great Abyss now divides two realms: one cloaked in perpetual night, the other scorched by an unrelenting sun.

While one sister rules Aranth—a frozen city surrounded by a storm-wracked sea —her twin inhabits the sand-locked Golden City. Each goddess has raised a daughter, and each keeps her own secrets about her sister’s betrayal.

But when shadowy forces begin to call their daughters, Odessa and Haidee, back to the site of the Breaking, the two young goddesses —along with a powerful healer from Aranth, and a mouthy desert scavenger —set out on separate journeys across treacherous wastelands, desperate to heal their broken world. No matter the sacrifice it demands.

I haven’t read any of Rin Chupeco’s other books, but I have heard absolutely nothing but good things about them. That being said, I was super excited to pick up this one, and not just because of that super gorgeous cover (I mean look at it! It’s stunning! And by now I am sure you can tell that I have a thing for pretty covers on books).

Anyway, the entire plot of The Never Tilting World just sounded so amazing. It was compared to being like Frozen, which I thought was pretty neat. Even though Frozen was never really a favorite of mine, I always appreciated the plot line and thought it was pretty nifty, so I was excited to read this book, even if it were based on that alone.

The immortal heroines aspect really caught my eye – I tried to imagine how awesome that could be and I wanted to see how they played out as characters in this new duology. I wasn’t disappointed, either; this was a fresh take on fantasy and something different from the hundreds of other fantasy novels I’ve read before!

The characters in this book were just so amazingly well written and had so much personality, from the very first pages of the book. Rin Chupeco definitely has a great knack for writing great characters – the amount of care put into shaping them into the great ones that they were in this book is astronomical.

The plot about one sister being stuck in light and the other being stuck in darkness is also such a cool aspect. Seeing how the plot was developed to make it come to life in this book was also pretty cool – there were a lot of elements that I honestly didn’t even think of at first, and it pulled everything together into a really, really awesome story.

The world building and attention to detail here is absolutely amazing. If you books that have lush, fantastic worlds for you to explore through reading, this is such a great one to pick up. So much goes on in The Never Tilting World, but one of my absolute favorite aspects of the book is the fleshed out world that the author has created.

I honestly can’t wait for the second book in this duology – this one was fast-paced, entertaining, and a completely amazing ride that I loved from the first chapter to the last. I guess I wish it had been a little longer, though – I honestly did not want this book to end!

If fantasy is your thing (or even if you aren’t usually a fantasy reader and are looking to branch out), this book is one that should definitely not be missed!

Note: I received an eARC of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!

Despite an unsettling resemblance to Japanese revenants, Rin always maintains her sense of hummus. Born and raised in Manila, Philippines, she keeps four pets: a dog, two birds, and a husband. Dances like the neighbors are watching.

She is represented by Rebecca Podos of the Helen Rees Agency. She is also fond of speaking in the third person, and may as well finish this short bio in this manner. While she does not always get to check her Goodreads page, she does answer questions posed to her here as promptly as she is able to.
