Publisher: Delacorte Press

Synopsis: Adventures in Babysitting meets Buffy the Vampire Slayer in this funny, action-packed novel about a coven of witchy babysitters who realize their calling to protect the innocent and save the world from an onslaught of evil.

Seventeen-year-old Esme Pearl has a babysitters club. She knows it’s kinda lame, but what else is she supposed to do? Get a job? Gross. Besides, Esme likes babysitting, and she’s good at it.

And lately Esme needs all the cash she can get, because it seems like destruction follows her wherever she goes. Let’s just say she owes some people a new tree.

Enter Cassandra Heaven. She’s Instagram-model hot, dresses like she found her clothes in a dumpster, and has a rebellious streak as gnarly as the cafeteria food. So why is Cassandra willing to do anything, even take on a potty-training two-year-old, to join Esme’s babysitters club?

The answer lies in a mysterious note Cassandra’s mother left her: “Find the babysitters. Love, Mom.”

Turns out, Esme and Cassandra have more in common than they think, and they’re about to discover what being a babysitter really means: a heroic lineage of superpowers, magic rituals, and saving the innocent from seriously terrifying evil. And all before the parents get home.

This book was so much fun!

The cover is so pretty, and the whole Babysitter’s Club vibe I was hoping for were what really drew me in! Plus, since I’m Wiccan, I got excited over the whole witches aspect – I wanted to see how the author could make this story line work. Turns out, she did a fantastic job incorporating all the elements into the story to make it fantastic!

The characters in this book are AMAZING. Esme is my favorite character in the book, and I absolutely adore her personality. She kind of reminded me of myself in high school, to be honest, which is why I think I loved her so much. Cassandra is an incredibly “hot” girl, so you wouldn’t think that she as Esme would be teaming up in this book, but they totally do. I think that’s why it makes the book so awesome – the two of them are complete opposites, yet they have to work together. It kind of gave me that Odd-Couple vibe.

Character development! There was a ton of it. I loved it, as always. The characters really grew and changed throughout the book, and it made the story so much better as it went on. It was great from the start, mind you – but it gets better!

The plot of this book is so original and fun. I read so many heart-felt and emotional books that sometimes I really just want something fun and entertaining. This is definitely what I was looking for. It had a light-hearted approach that really just tied everything together. If a book can make me smile and laugh, it’s definitely a keeper.

This is a book I’ll be purchasing to add to my bookshelves, and probably reading it a second time very soon!

Note: I received an eARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!
