My Review

As far as adult coloring books go, there are either full of flowers, animals, peaceful scenes, mandalas, or other images that are created to inspire serenity, peace, and the feeling of calm.  But this coloring book is unlike any other coloring book you’re going to come across – it’s about hair.

fearless fun hair

I Love My Hair by Andrea Pippins offers up a great deal of different designs for every hair type – straight, curly, short, long – you name it, and it’s in this book.  The drawings are simply beautiful, as is the message that waits for you within – the message of accepting who you are, what you look like, and loving you for you (even if it just deals with hair, you get the message about ow good it is to love you!).

brush

There are so many different images in this book for you to color – some are quick and simple, and others are very intricate and detailed and will probably take a good chunk of time to color (but that’s part of the fun!).  I had such a difficult time trying to decide where to start when it came to picking a picture to color…there are so many that are just amazing.  Some of them span two pages, but as you can tell in my examples, the book lies pretty flat and it’s easy to color near the spine of the book, so it didn’t really matter that they ran over more than one page.

hair comb

I used colored pencils on all of the pictures that I colored, so I can’t say for sure whether gel pen ink or marker would go through the paper, because the images are printed on both sides.  However, the paper is really thick, and has a great quality feel to it, which is really nice, too.  It also has a dust jacket that you can color.  I don’t know what it is about dust jackets on coloring books, but I absolutely love them, especially when you can color them!

I Love My Hair by Andrea Pippins is definitely going on my favorites shelf when it comes to coloring books.  It’s completely original, fun, and sends a beautiful message across to anyone who picks it up, looks through it, and gets lost in the gorgeous images that await within.

Note: I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

I know it’s an adult book, but I kind of want it for my daughter! She has curly hair and I really want her to love it when she’s a teenager.

    • Kelly says:

Awe. Get it for her! I could see this being nice for younger kids, too. There’s a lot to do with curly hair in here, so it might be a nice gift for her!
