My Review
Coloring Dream Mandalas by Wendy Piersall is a wonderful little coloring book filled with an assortment of illustrations that have plenty of variety and originality. The images found within the pages of this book are of high quality, and you can tell that a lot of care went into making each one unique and different from the last.
The book itself is a little smaller than many other coloring books, which means that the illustrations are a little bit smaller, too, but that in no way changes how awesome this coloring book really is. Some of the drawings are a bit more intricate than others, but they’re all equally well done and fun to color.
The illustrations in this book are only printed on one side of the paper, so you don’t have to worry about ruining a drawing on the other side if you press too hard or use something other than colored pencils to color them in. While the pages do seem a bit thinner than other books I have colored in, I can imagine markers or watercolor pencils working well if you put a plain sheet of paper on the other side to prevent any bleed-through. I only used colored pencils, and since the paper is a bright white color, it shows up wonderfully!
While this coloring book doesn’t really follow one set theme (like oceans or cities), there is definitely some of everything here. There are thirty different illustrations, featuring designs such as hot air balloons, flowers, angels, dream catchers…an amazing variety of drawings fill these pages and give you endless options when it comes to making them look exactly how you want. The originality present in this book is unlike anything else…it’s practically a playground for those who enjoy coloring.
I had a lot of fun with this book. It was different, worked out well with colored pencils, and the illustrations were all designs that made me smile. Some of the images are good for coloring when you’re pressed for time, while others might take a while longer due to some intricate details. There really is something in here for everyone. If you’re looking for a nice book to start out in the world of adult coloring, this is a good one to choose. If you’re simply looking to expand your already existing coloring book library, you won’t be disappointed, either.
Note: I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
