Synopsis

This gorgeously illustrated adult coloring book draws readers into the secret world of cats in Paris as they explore the city's most famous (and feline-friendly) spots.

Say bonjour to the cats of Paris as they slink through its fabled streets and alleyways, from Montmartre to the Shakespeare and Company bookshop and into a feline-filled land of playful imagination. Featuring intricate pen-and-ink drawings of tabbies, Persians, Siamese, and more, this evocative coloring book’s frisky kitties lie in wait for your colorful stylings.

My Review

I have a weak spot for cats.  I’ve always loved them, and I’ve had quite a few of them in my life over the years.  Every one of them has been incredibly special to me, and they’ve all been wonderful friends that I could never picture my life without.  So when it comes to cat related anything, I’ll more than likely pick it up.  When I heard about a coloring book dedicated to cats (and cats in Paris, no less!), I wasted no time in checking it out.

If the cover isn’t adorable enough, this is probably the most adorable coloring book I have ever seen.  Part of me didn’t even want to color in it, it’s so cute…I just wanted to keep it to look through.  The first group of pages involves a cat walking you through his favorite spots in Paris, and there’s a neat little story that goes along with it the illustrations.

These illustrations are beautifully done, from the shading, to the landscapes, even to the cats themselves.  Like I said, these are almost too pretty to color!

The second group of the book focuses more on just cats themselves, without much of the whole Paris theme going on.  These images are absolutely adorable, and there are a lot of them!  There are all kinds of different breeds of cats, so you’re sure to have a great time coloring them as you see fit.

There are so many  fun illustrations in this book, I had a hard time deciding what I wanted to color.  Every page features cats, either snuggling, sleeping, or playing, and they’re all incredibly sweet and cute.  While some of the images do span across two pages, the book lays nice and flat and it’s easy to color along the spine, so it wasn’t really an issue for me.  I used Prismacolor colored pencils for the pictures I colored, and they worked beautifully, but you could probably use other media as well, because the paper is pretty thick.  I haven’t tried markers, but since the images are printed on two sides, you might run into a bit of a problem with the marker bleeding through, especially if you layer on the color.

I honestly haven’t seen a coloring book that I loved as much as this one…the illustrations are playful, fun, and some of them are incredibly stunning (especially the ones in the front of the book that feature Paris).  While I do wish there were more Paris themed illustrations than there were, I’m not going to let that ruin the book for me, and I know it’s one that I’m going to color in a lot.  If you love cats, you really shouldn’t miss this one!
