Synopsis: Eva Walker is a seventeen-year-old math genius. Zenn Diagram is that cute, yet powerful novel that you simply really want to read.  It’s fun, the main character is a blast, and the story line is strong enough to carry itself and engage readers in the interesting world of the main character, Eva.

Eva has an interesting secret – she can touch people and “see” what they’ve been through in their lives.  She sees fractals, which is what she refers to them as.  While she tries not to touch people or their very personal belongings (such as a jacket), because it can overwhelm her with feelings, she instead uses this ability to help tutor kids in her school in math.  She likes each student to bring their calculator, which stores information that helps her determine hot to help the individual and what she can do to make their tutoring go more smoothly.  One day, however, she ends up touching the jacket of Zenn, a student that Eva finds herself having a crush on, and when she does, she can sense sadness and emotions that she can’t quite place.

 When Eva and Zenn start spending more and more time together in tutoring, they start to get to know each other better.  Over time, through the visions that she has had by touching Zenn and through the conversations they have, Eva stumbles across a strange secret in both of their histories that links them both, and can end up ruining everything for the two of them.

Eva’s character is witty and it is a true joy to read the book through her narration.  It’s told from her point of view, and she cracks jokes and is honest about what is going on in her life, making her quite the relatable character.  I also liked her best friend – I love books that have friendship as a strong point.  Zenn was an interesting character, and I spent a good portion of the book wondering what his secret was, and how the two of them could have had any kind of history together.  It was really interesting to see where their paths led to bring them together, and how their past could also tear them apart.

Zenn Diagram is a cute book, but it is also a powerful and emotional read.  I love the whole thing with Eva being able to sense people’s emotions and their histories just by touching them, and that she is able to help tutor students by getting a feel for their mathetmatical weaknesses through their calculators.  It’s incredibly intereresting.

If you are looking for something a bit different, Zenn Diagram is definitely a book to check out!

So my name alone should give you a clue that I graduated from high school when bangs were big and clothes were baggy. I went to Northwestern University and majored in journalism even though I had no desire to be a journalist. I’ve been married to a great guy for a whole drinking-aged person’s life. I’ve got two amazing and yet very different (and very tall) teenage kids. I like crappy food, pinning inspirational quotes on Pinterest, have a tendency to start paragraphs with “anyway”, and I wish I were funnier. I would love to be one of those really, REALLY funny bloggers (like Insane in the Mom-Brain) that makes you pee yourself a little bit. I am only moderately funny. I admit that. It’s one of my great sadnesses in life.

​I started writing fiction when I was 10, but tried to be practical with the whole journalism thing. Didn’t take. Shortly after college, the fiction-writing desire reared its non-practical head and I’ve been writing ever since.

Anyway, I’m probably just like you. We’d probably be friends if we met in real life. (Well, let’s be honest. It’s likely that only my friends are actually reading this blog, so we probably ARE friends in real life.)
