Synopsis: Ever since last year’s homecoming dance, best friends-turned-best enemies Zorie and Lennon have made an art of avoiding each other. It doesn’t hurt that their fami-lies are the modern day, Californian version of the Montagues and Capulets.
But when a group camping trip goes south, Zorie and Lennon find themselves stranded in the wilderness. Alone. Together.
What could go wrong?
With no one but each other for company, Zorie and Lennon have no choice but to hash out their issues via witty jabs and insults as they try to make their way to safety. But fighting each other while also fighting off the forces of nature makes getting out of the woods in one piece less and less likely.
And as the two travel deeper into Northern California’s rugged backcountry, secrets and hidden feelings surface. But can Zorie and Lennon’s rekindled connection survive out in the real world? Or was it just a result of the fresh forest air and the magic of the twinkling stars?
I absolutely loved Alex, Approximately when I read it last spring – I thought it was the perfect read for summer. When I heard about Jenn Bennett’s new book, Starry Eyes, I was excited to read it. When I saw that really beautiful cover, I was even more excited to read it. I mean, look at it – it’s stunning! Definitely one of my favorite covers for 2018.
Along with my love for the cover and how great I thought the synopsis sounded, I think my favorite part of the book was how well written the characters are. If you’ve read Jenn Bennett’s previous novels, you might already love how she writes her characters – perfectly fleshed out and well rounded, and generally just fun. Plus the relationships that Jenn writes about are amazing, too – and Starry Eyes is pretty much par for the course in those terms – it’s fun, sweet, and the perfect summer read.
The friendship between the two main characters, Zorie and Lennon, is spectacular! I’m all about friendships in young adult novels, and this doesn’t disappoint at all. There’s really something special in the friendship in this book though – it’s probably one of the best I’ve read so far this year. I also found myself loving the falling out that they had, and then how they had to spend time together and work through their problems.
The book itself had that amazing quality that comes along with a great book – wanting to be pulled into it and feeling really sad when it’s over. Like it Alex, Approximately, I found myself not wanting to put this one down, so I read it over the course of a single day. I loved the setting, I loved the characters, and the story was a heartwarming and amusing one that I have come to expect from the author.
If you’re looking for an amazing contemporary that will really get you into the book and fall for the characters, look no further than Starry Eyes. You won’t be disappointed in the slightest!
Note: I received an eARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!
