Synopsis: It’s all fun and parties until someone falls in love in this modern fairy tale from author Kate Evangelista.

Caleb desperately needs a fake girlfriend. Either he attends a series of parties for his father’s law firm with a pretty girl on his arm, or he gets shipped off to Yale to start a future he’s not ready for and isn’t sure he wants. And sadly, the last unattached girl in his social circle has just made the grievous mistake of falling in love with him. Fortunately, Didi, recently fired waitress and aspiring painter, is open to new experiences. As the summer ticks by in a whirl of lavish parties, there’s only one rule: They must not fall in love!

No Love Allowed by Kate Evangelista is the first romance novel that I’ve read in a while that focused mainly on the romance.  A lot of other books I’ve been reading have some romances in them as the secondary theme, but usually not the first.  So when I started this one, I was hoping for a nice cozy read that would make me all warm and fuzzy inside, and this book definitely delivers on the sweetness.

Rich and popular Caleb dates a lot of girls – but with the rule that they are not allowed to fall in love with him.  When a girl starts to show even the faintest big of feelings for him, he breaks it off with them – often leaving the girls brokenhearted, but protecting himself from dealing with messy emotions.

However, when he meets Didi, things change.  Didi is the opposite of all the stuck up, bossy, rich girls that he’s used to dating – in fact, she’s so much the opposite, Caleb finds himself wanting to get to know her even better.  He likes being around her carefree and exciting attitude – she’s completely different to him, and he seems to be drawn to

When his father tells him that he needs to intern at his law firm and attend all of the events that summer, Caleb realizes it isn’t a good time to not have a girlfriend (and he also realizes that he’s dated almost all the other girls in his circle), so he’s in the process of figuring out what to do when he decides to ask Didi to be his fake girlfriend for the summer – that way, he will have a date to all the events that would otherwise be awkward if he were single.

Didi, who recently quit her job at the country club as a waitress (the same country club where Caleb and all of his friends hang out), and her mother is busy juggling multiple jobs to keep them afloat.  Didi needs to take several different medications for a mental illness (that isn’t explained until later in the book), and they barely have enough money to pay the electric bill on time, let alone throw money around the way Caleb and his friends do.  However, without a job for the summer, Didi decides that she will take Caleb up on his proposal – after all, what else does she have to do?  Plus, going to all those parties could be fun.

But when Caleb starts to break his own number one rule, he wonders exactly what will happen between him and Didi when the summer is over.

I really enjoyed the whole light and fluffy romance aspect of this book – I really needed the swoon-worthy crushes and adorable banter that went on between Caleb and Didi.  I liked Caleb’s character, as well as his cousin Nathan’s character, but for some reason, I did have a difficult time connecting to Didi – I think that might have been because there didn’t seem to be as many chapters with her as the main character in them – they were mostly from Caleb’s side (which isn’t a bad thing!).  Didi seemed a bit awkward at first, but as the story went on, it seemed like she didn’t really care what anyone thought of her, and I really did like that.

I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a good, sweet romance – it’s definitely perfect for spring!

Note: I received an ARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
