Lifeblood

Author: Gena Showalter

Series: Everlife, #2

Publication Date: February 28th, 2017

Publisher: Harlequin Teen

Synopsis: “My Firstlife is over, but my Everlife is only now beginning.”

With her last living breath, Tenley “Ten” Lockwood made her choice and picked her realm in the Everlife. Now, as the war between Troika and Myriad rages, she must face the consequences.

Because Ten possesses a rare supernatural ability to absorb and share light, the Powers That Be have the highest expectations for her future—and the enemy wants her neutralized. Fighting to save her Secondlife, she must learn about her realm from the ground up while launching her first mission: convincing a select group of humans to join her side before they die. No pressure, right?
But Ten’s competition is Killian, the boy she can’t forget—the one who gave up everything for her happiness. He has only one shot at redemption: beating Ten at a game she’s never even played. As their throw-downs heat up, so do their undeniable feelings, and soon, Ten will have to make another choice. Love…or victory.

My Review

I don’t want to go too into detail with this review, because I hate giving away spoilers, and since this is the second book in a series, too much might give away important plot points from the first book (and for those who haven’t read the amazing first book in this series, you should grab yourself a copy and go for it – it’s such a delightful read!).

If you remember the first book, you remember that the main character, Ten, spent the whole book trying to decide which realm she wanted to spend her afterlife, or Secondlife, in.

For those who read that book and enjoyed it, you find out that she picked her realm in Everlife.  However, there is now a war going on between Troika and Myriad,  and Ten has to deal with the consequences of her choice and what is going on around her (which isn’t a pretty ordeal).

Because of Ten’s supernatural ability (she can absorb light and share it), she needs to help fight to protect the future of her Secondlife, along with her competition that she develops some pretty strong feelings for.

There is some romance in this book, and the feelings between the two are pretty intense (I think this is a great change from the last book, personally – it actually went nicely here).  The characters that you love make an appearance here, as well, and Ten is once again the main character in the book.

I felt like Ten’s character really improved from the last book – she seemed to be more focused and like she had really grown as a character in terms of what she wanted.  When she is forced to make the decision of what she wants – the romance or to win the war, she really needs to take some time and figure out what is truly important to her.

If you liked the first book, you really need to read the second book in this series.  It answers a lot of questions and really does a great job with continuing the story line that started in Firstlife.

I can’t wait for the next book!

Note: I received an ARC of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
