die-for-youDie for You

Author: Amy Fellner Dominy

Publication Date: November 8th, 2016

Publisher: Delacorte Press

Synopsis: Theirs was the perfect love story.

After Emma Lorde’s parents’ divorce forces her to move halfway across the state of Arizona to live with her father, Emma must face her senior year in a new school knowing absolutely no one.

Then she meets Dillon Hobbs and something just clicks.

Dillon introduces Emma to friends she can call her own. He provides a refuge from the chaos of her past and the security of a commitment that he promises will last forever. And because circumstances of her messy life forced Emma to put aside her dream of pursuing archaeology, Dillon creates a blueprint for a future together.
He saves her, over and over, by loving her more than she thought anyone ever would.

But just when everything seems picture-perfect, Emma is offered an opportunity that will upend the future they’ve planned. Uncertainty grows, and fear spirals into something darker.

Now Dillon is the one who needs saving.

But how much do you sacrifice for the one you love? What if saving Dillon means losing herself?

My Review

I seem to be drawn to books that deal with difficult topics, and Die for You is no exception.  This book was a difficult read at times, because it felt so real…like I was actually reading about a real couple – not that fluffy, romantic stuff that seems to be good part of every book these days.  No, this one definitely had some heart to it.

When Emma’s parents split up, she is sent away to live with her dad, and is stuck going to a school where she doesn’t know anyone.   It’s hard at first, and lonely, but she eventually meets Dillon, who essentially takes her under his wing – hanging out with her, introducing her to his friends, who accept her into their fold and include her.  Eventually, Dillon and Emma fall in love with each other, and it’s a love that makes Emma feel like she is walking on air – until it sends her crashing down to the ground as problems arise.

This book explores some difficult topics – such as not being safe in relationships, the importance of friendships, and how a powerful love can be a little too powerful at times.

This was a really hard read…powerful and incredible, sure, but scary at the same time.  I mean, it’s a topic that isn’t explored all that much – I mean, sure, books have talked about happy relationships, but I can’t say I’ve actually read a book that explored the whole “die to stay together, no matter what” kind of scenario.  That was really difficult to read and was incredibly difficult to even imagine, but here it is, in this book – powerful, and amazingly written.

The characters in this book are incredibly multi-dimensional, with tons of personality that make you able to easily connect with them.  I loved that about them – it felt like I was actually friends with the two main characters in this book.

This book touches on a subject not seen much – a hard one to read, sure, but important.  This book explores a darker side of relationships instead of the warm and fuzzies.

Note: I received an ARC of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
