Delaney’s entire world is thrown into chaos after she is mistaken for Lissa Olena, an alien princess hiding out on Earth in order to escape an arranged marriage.

Kidnapped by the princess’s head bodyguard, Ruckus, and imprisoned in an alien palace, Delaney is forced to impersonate the princess until Olena can be found. If she fails, it will lead to an alien war and the eventual enslavement of the entire human race.

No pressure or anything.

Factor in Trystan, the princess’s terrifying betrothed who is intent on unraveling all her secrets, and her own growing feelings for Ruckus, and Delaney is in way over her head.

Get lost Amid Stars and Darkness, in this YA sci-fi romance from debut author Chani Lynn Feener.

When science fiction and romance work well together, they can work really well together.  Such is the case with Amid Stars and Darkness – it has everything that both fans of romance and science fiction will adore, all wrapped up in a delightful story with an absolutely beautiful cover!

The main character, Delaney, has her entire world thrown into chaos when bodyguards mistake her for an alien princess who has been hiding out so she does not have to go through with an arranged marriage to someone she does not wish to marry.  The princess’s bodyguards capture her and hold her prisoner in the palace of that princess, where she is forced to impersonate this princess until the real princess can be found and married to her future husband.  While this sounds difficult enough, there’s another problem: if Delaney fails and impersonating the princess, then a war can break out, and cause the entire human race to become enslaved.

However, eventually Delaney starts to develop feelings for the bodyguard who picked her up, all while she is dealing with the princess’s future husband, who is threatening to expose secrets that ought not to be exposed.

This was a fun little romance/science fiction.  I like the whole mistaken identity plot that lands Delaney in the situation in the first place – it works out pretty well here and is really entertaining.

Delaney’s character is strong willed and she really tries to do what she can – when she learns that she has to impersonate the princess to save the human race, she does her best to keep the peace.  Even though the princess’s bodyguard was the one who kidnapped her, I really like the way that the budding romance plays out between the two.

If you like a quick and sweet science fiction/romance read, this is a great one to pick up this summer!

Note: I received an ARC of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.  Thank you!
