Synopsis: The day Raquel has been dreading for months has finally arrived. Sasha, her best friend in the whole world — the best friend in the whole world — has died of cancer. Raquel can’t imagine life without her. She’s overwhelmed and brokenhearted.
And then a letter from Sasha arrives. Has she somehow found a way to communicate from the afterlife?
In fact, Sasha has planned an elaborate scavenger hunt for Raquel, and when she follows the instructions to return to Sasha’s grave, a mysterious stranger with striking eyes is waiting for her. There’s a secret attached to this boy that only Sasha—and now Raquel—knows.
This boy, Elijah, might be just what Raquel needs to move on from her terrible loss. But can Raquel remain true to herself while also honoring her friend’s final wish?
I haven’t read any of Cheyanne Young’s other books, but I have heard some pretty good things about them and read some good reviews over the years. When I heard about The Last Wish of Sasha Cade I was excited to read it – the synopsis made it sound like a really emotional roller coaster of a book, one that is deeply rooted in friendship, and I love those kinds of books. I wanted something to give me all the feels!
The Last Wish of Sasha Cade follows Raquel and her grief after her very best friend dies of cancer. She doesn’t know how she can possibly live her life without Sasha, but she is going to have to. Her heart is completely broken and her world is shattered – she has no idea what she is going to do.
Raquel then gets a letter from Sasha – a scavenger hunt for Raquel. The scavenger hunt is designed to help Raquel heal from her death, and it sets in motion a series of clues and events that end up leading her to a mysterious stranger. The boy is one that Raquel can’t help but develop feelings for, but is hesitant to go wit her feelings because she wants to keep her emotions in check while still keeping her best friend in mind, and isn’t sure what to do.
Raquel’s story after Sasha’s passing is heartbreaking – it really is an emotional roller coaster. I needed tissues multiple times throughout the book – I honestly don’t think I would have gotten through it without them! It was beautifully written and oh so captivating – I couldn’t put it down.
This book is a reminder that while life is short, sometimes its best to throw caution to the wind and live it the way that you want to. The friendship angle in the book is so inspiring, and I loved how close Raquel felt toward Sasha, and that Sasha would try to ensure her friend’s happiness, even after she was gone.
I really loved Raquel’s character. Her personality was just so honest and beautiful, and I think that the author made her character perfect for the story. The conversations flowed naturally, especially those between her and Elijah. It’s such a beautiful story of friendship with strong elements that keep it interesting, emotional, and wonderfully engaging.
If you are looking for a book that is going to make you laugh, smile, and cry (multiple times, maybe), The Last Wish of Sasha Cade is the book you are looking for.
