Synopsis: Trapped on the ice-planet of Delon, gamer girl Sofi and Ambassador Miguel have discovered that nothing is what it seems, including their friends. On a quest to rescue her brother, Shilo, a boy everyone believes is dead, they must now escape and warn Earth of Delon’s designs on humanity. Except the more they unearth of the planet and Sofi’s past, the more they feel themselves unraveling, as each new revelation has Sofi questioning the very existence of reality.
Meanwhile, back on Earth, Sofi’s mom, Inola, is battling a different kind of unravel-ing: a political one that could cost lives, positions, and a barely-rebuilt society, should they discover the deal made with the Delonese.
But there’s a secret deeper than all that. One locked away inside Sofi and ticking away with the beginnings, endings, and answers to everything. Including how to save humanity.
I read The Evaporation of Sofi Snow a while back, because I love science fiction books and I had a feeling it was going to be an amazing novel – I was right, it was amazing. The details that the author put into that book were incredible, and the characters really jumped off the page and were something special. When I heard that a second book in the series, Reclaiming Shilo Snow, was coming out, I was pretty excited, because I had a feeling that this one was going to be really good, too.
It was such a fantastic second book, continuing the story and continuing to make the characters seem real with the love and care that the author put into this book, as well. Normally I’m not that much of a fan of second books in a series, but this one really held up against the first novel, with plenty of action and the characters that I grew to love in the first book.
Reclaiming Shilo Snow adds an even more exciting depth to the first book, with new characters and a new scenario with plenty of action and adventure (and of course, science fiction) and thrilling moments that will have you reading this book well up until you turn the last page. I couldn’t get over how much this one had to offer, and how well it fit in with the first book. It was amazing – a really fast paced read that I just couldn’t put down.
Reclaiming Shilo Snow seemed to me a bit more of a thriller than The Evaporation of Sofi Snow, and I was totally okay with that. I love a bit of a thrill in my novels, so I was glad that this seemed to be a more of an “edge of your seat” kind of book.
The writing is the same kind of writing as the first book – that kind that really holds your interest from the very first page.
Mary Weber is truly a talented author and has so much to offer. She has a way with words and bringing her characters to life in new and exciting ways.
If you havne’t read the first book in the series yet, you should check that one out first, and then continue with this if you enjoy it. For fans of science fiction, this series is definitely a must!
Note: I received an ARC of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review – Thank you!
