I haven’t read any of Jonathan Friesen’s other books, but I have heard some amazing things about them over the years.  Sow hen I saw that he had a new book coming out, I decided that I was going to read it, no questions asked.

The whole synopsis for this book sounded amazing, and I was so eager to dive into it.  It seemed like the perfect blend of science fiction, fantasy, mystery, and romance – all rolled into one, and I knew it was going to be something that I couldn’t put down.  I wasn’t disappointed on that front, either – it was definitely something that I loved and it was such an engrossing read that I finished it in the course of two days.

I’m not going to discuss the plot really, because there are a lot of twists and things for the reader to discover, and I would really hate to give too much away.  Instead, I’ll just talk about what I enjoyed about the book, starting with the awesome characters.

Jonah has had to deal with a lot in his life, including a condition that causes him to have epileptic seizures.  Of course, he feels like he will never get the girl he wants, because she is too perfect for him, and he feels like he isn’t good enough for her.  Jonah has a nice personality, and his character offers so much in terms of growth throughout the book.

The girl he is in love with, Stormi, might not notice Jonah much until she needs help with something, but when she does, the two of them come together and create a budding and sweet romance that really made the book.  Stormi herself is an interesting character, and I found myself really enjoying the parts of the book that are about her and what she is dealing with.

Overall I thought this book was pretty fun.  From the synopsis it might sound a bit confusing (and every now and again it is, but it’s also easy to follow up on and figure things out, so it’s not a big deal).  It’s really a great book for those days when you’re tired of reading typical romances and want something a little different!

Note: I received a copy of this book from the publisher via the BookLook Bloggers program in exchange for an honest review.
