Summary from Goodreads: Artist Beatrix Adams knows exactly how she’s spending the summer before her senior year. Determined to follow in Leonardo da Vinci’s footsteps, she’s ready to tackle the one thing that will give her an advantage in a museum-sponsored scholarship contest: drawing actual cadavers. But when she tries to sneak her way into the hospital’s Willed Body program and misses the last metro train home, she meets a boy who turns her summer plans upside down.

Jack is charming, wildly attractive . . . and possibly one of San Francisco’s most notorious graffiti artists. On midnight buses and city rooftops, Beatrix begins to see who Jack really is—and tries to uncover what he’s hiding that leaves him so wounded. But will these secrets come back to haunt him? Or will the skeletons in Beatrix’s own family’s closet tear them apart?

Review:
stars-4

This was one of the books I was most looking forward to for the fall of 2015, so I was absolutely thrilled when I got the chance to read it.  I can say that I was not disappointed, and I found it a very interesting romance that fit the title perfectly.

Beatrix (Bex) Adams wants nothing more than to be a medical illustrator when she gets older.  So when she realizes that she can’t attend the college she wants to go to without some sort of scholarship, she is determined to win.  And in order to win, she has to do something spectacular.  So she decides that she wants to draw cadavers.  So it happens that while she is on the way home from meeting with the professor in the anatomy lab to ask for permission that she bumps into Jack Victor on the train on the way home.  After their brief conversation, Bex finds herself intrigued by this mysterious boy, and begins to search for information about who he could be.  When she runs into him again, she wonders if it really is by chance, but it turns out that he had waited for her.  When she learns his name, and that he is connected with the graffiti that has been appearing all over the city, she finds herself even more interested in him, and completely drawn into his charm and romance.  As Bex finds herself falling in love with Jack, who is essentially a felon at this point, she also has to deal with her parents’ divorce, her family problems, and figuring out how she is going to win the scholarship that will help her to college.

This book has an adorable romance in it, and I have to say, that I absolutely loved Jack.  He is such a gentleman, and he really tries to be a wonderful guy for Bex (where were all these awesome guys when I was in high school?  Seriously!), and he treats her so amazingly well.  I had a bit of a difficult time connecting to Bex’s character, but at he same time, if I were faced with some of the challenges she had overcome, I would probably be the same type of person she was.  She’s having such a difficult time trying to be with Jack, deal with her family issues, and get into a good college, while working at an upscale grocery store, so she obviously has her hands full.  Also, I found Bex’s story and Jack’s story to both be interesting.  You have the vandal and the nerdy girl who wants to be a medical illustrator.  I didn’t even realize that was an actual thing before I read this book, so I even learned something!

If you’re looking for a cute, feel-good romance, this is definitely a good book to pick up!

Note: I received an ARC of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
